Remodeling Costs vs. Value
| HomeTech Information Systems has compiled 2009-2010 cost versus value data for a number of common home improvement projects. Cost data was gathered from contractors around the country and estimated resale values for the same projects were gathered from appraisers and real estate professionals. The national averages were then adjusted for regional cost variations. In total, over 6,000 respondents provided this helpful data. The data provides estimates of the amount of the home improvement project cost a homeowner may expect to recoup when they sell their home. Some examples include, bathroom remodel (52% to 65%), kitchen remodel (57% to 67%), adding a deck (73% to 83%), adding a main floor family room (60%), roof replacement (51%), new windows (65%) and cement fiber siding (73%). |

Wichita received very favorable ratings in housing affordability, travel time, real estate taxes and home vacancies. Omaha, Little Rock, Jackson, MS, Des Moines and Augusta,GA were the only cities with a higher overall rating than Wichita. Miami and Los Angeles were at the bottom of the list. Sounds like the Midwest continues to be a great value! |

Study Indicates Wichita Area Has Good Housing Values
| According to a recent national study by Coldwell Banker, Wichita is the 10th-most affordable housing market in the United States. The study compared the cost of 4 bedroom homes of all ages, with approximately 2200 square feet. The average sales price of such a home in Wichita was approximately $145,000. The cumulative average sales price of a similar sized home in 310 markets across the country is $363,460. Of course, location, condition, age and amenities of a given home can result in values significantly different than the average. |

"See You At The Pole" Draws Millions of Students
| Yesterday marked the 20th anniversary of "See You At The Pole", a student-led, student-initiated movement of prayer. We awoke very early at our home so that I could drive our kids to the 7:00am gathering at the flag pole in front of each of their schools. "See You At The Pole" began in Texas in 1990. This year's theme was "ENGAGE: Go and Pray At Your School Flagpole . . . Pray for friends, family, school, community, country and the world". The theme is based on 2 Kings 22 and the story of Josiah. Josiah, the King of Israel, began one of the greatest revivals and awakenings of the Old Testament. At age 16, he began to pursue God passionately and he encouraged everyone to recognize the power of prayer. Our children estimated that there were 40 to 50 participating in the event at Andover Middle School and approximately the same number at Andover High School. Around the world, it is estimated that nearly 3 million students participated in the event. |
